Mr. Veenstra, Choir

I am excited to be a part of the Zeeland Christian staff this year as the choir director.

I will be splitting my time between three Holland Christian Schools (Rose Park Elementary, North Shore Middle School, South Shore Middle School) and Zeeland Christian.

Here is a little information about myself:

I graduated from Calvin College in 1996 with a degree in Music Education for both instrumental and vocal music.  I taught band, choir and general music for the Grand Rapids Christian Schools for four years and then we moved to Ontario, CA.  In California, I taught 5th through 8th grade band, choir and general music at Ontario Christian School and I was also very active in the music ministry at Crosspoint Church in Chino, CA. 

I am married to Kim Veenstra and we have two daughters, Maria and Shawna. Kim is currently pursuing a doctorate in music theory at Ohio State University where she is a Graduate Teaching Assistant.  In Ohio, both Kim and I have been involved in the music ministry at Heritage Christian Church in Westerville, OH where I served as orchestra director.  In addition to playing and singing, I enjoy hiking and reading.     

 Psalm 33:3 tells us, "Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully and shout for joy."

"Music is how I love to praise God to use my gifts for God's glory and honor. I feel that it is my responsibility to use my talents to teach others to be used for service in the Kingdom of God.  Music permeates our culture and we can make a big impact aesthetically, emotionally and spiritually by teaching students to sing new songs, play instruments with skill and by helping them experience the joy that comes from making music for the Lord."
