Frequently Asked Questions

What is Zeeland Christian School?
We are a preschool through middle school facility of approximately 850 students. Our curriculum is a progressive, traditional curriculum that takes the best in recent curriculum studies and adapts it to the needs of this school system. Our program includes physical education, vocal and instrumental music, art, and computers. Our Christian beliefs and teachings are at the heart of everything we teach and all our dealings with students.

How much is tuition at ZCS?
Tuition is based on a sliding scale so that your tuition expense depends on how many children you have in Christian schools. Please visit our Cost of Education page for more information.

Is financial aid available?
ZCS has a needs-based tuition grant program. We encourage families who face tuition difficulties to utilize this grant program. The tuition grant application form is given to all families registering students. You may also be able to receive assistance through your church. Please visit our Tuition Assistance page for more information.

Will I need to provide transportation for my child(ren)? Bus transportation is provided to our students by Zeeland Public Schools. This includes transporting high school students to Holland Christian High School.

Do you provide a hot lunch program?
Again, we partner with Zeeland Public Schools in this area. Two choices of hot lunches and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are available for the students to purchase at reasonable prices. Reduced price and free lunches are available to families who meet the federal income guidelines.

What do you offer for children with special needs?
The resource room program serves many of our students, in both elementary and middle school. The program meets the needs of students in many ways: by direct intervention, tutoring, and testing services provided by the Christian Learning Center.

The Reading Recovery program does a wonderful job of meeting the needs of students who have a difficult time with reading, mainly in first and second grade. It is a very intense one-on-one program that helps students determine what strategies to use so that they can become lifelong readers.

Inclusive Education is a vital part of our program here at Zeeland Christian. It's difficult to even separate it from the rest of our program because it has become such a part of our lives. We can't imagine having a school without special needs students working side by side with the regular education students. Zeeland Christian has truly been blessed by this program and presently meets the needs of 29 special needs students whose needs range from autism to brittle bone disease to Down Syndrome.

What kind of extracurricular activities do you offer?
We have a number of programs that are set up for highly motivated or gifted students. Some of the examples of these programs are Destination ImagiNation, Spelling Bee, and Math Club.

The ZCMS athletic program is an extension of our overall middle school philosophy. The focus of athletics centers on the needs and development of our middle school students. The athletic program allows for a maximum level of student participation, and provides the opportunity for development of basic athletic skills. Both boys and girls have the opportunity to participate in cross-country, track, basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Baseball is offered for boys and softball for girls.

For more information, please contact the school. Our principal, Mr. Bill Van Dyk would be glad to schedule time to talk with you.

Faith Story

Mr. Bouman, Fourth Grade

"It is out of gratitude for what Christ has done for me that I strive to serve Him and obey Him in all that I do. It is because of God's gift of Jesus that I am motivated to teach."
