Better Citizens

We teach our students from an early age to love and respect others. In the halls at Zeeland Christian, that might mean holding a door open for a fellow student or offering to take papers up to the office for one of the teachers. It also means going out into the world around us and serving those in need wherever we find them.

Our goal is that every student will find ways to serve those around him or her.  But we also spend time as groups doing service projects together.  Some examples include:

  • Serve & Skate Day - Every December, the middle school students take a morning and do service projects around the community.  Sometimes it means visiting with our elderly friends at places like Providence Nursing Home or Evergreen Commons.  It can mean going to Ditto Upscale Resale and folding clothese or cleaning shelves and windows.  Sometimes it just means baking cookies for our neighbors and thanking them for allowing us to be part of their community.
  • City on a Hill Upkeep - Middle schoolers take time each week to go to our neighbors at City on a Hill.  They'll do simple things like clean the bathrooms and help with general upkeep.
  • His Harvest Stand - The entire school pitches in to acquire donations for His Harvest Stand.  It's an exciting day when the fourth grade class gets to bring all the donations over!
  • Parkview Home - The school body pitches in to collect food and paper products for Parkview Home.  It's a treat for the students who get to deliver the supplies because they get to tour the beautiful home!

There are a plethora of other service projects that go on throughout the year.  God has not called us to only teach students math, science and reading.  Rather, we believe He's called us to teach our kids how to use those skills for the benefit of others.
