Play games. Learn math!
The Math Pentathlon is a program of interactive problem-solving games for students in grades 2-7. This motivational program strengthens basic math concepts and skills, aligns with National and State Mathematics Standards, and stimulates creative thinking while developing problem-solving skills. A focus on conceptual understanding and the integration of spatial, computational and logical reasoning are key attributes of Mathematics Pentathlon.
Students spend 90 minutes each week at Math Pentathlon after school. Kids pair up and play games together. Parents coach the kids and teach them the games. The games include titles like, "Hex-a-gone," "Star Track" and "Queens & Guards."
Is it educational? Absolutely. Is that why the kids like it? Nope. The kids like it because it's just plain fun!
