ZEELAND CHRISTIAN HIRES NEW DIR. OF FINANCE & OPERATIONS
ZEELAND, MI – October 6, 2016 - Zeeland Christian School today announced the hire of Mike Arendsen as the school’s new Director of Finance & Operations.
Arendsen is in the process of wrapping up a 30-year career at Herman Miller Inc. where he currently serves as a Senior Finance Analyst for New Product Development.
“We are extremely excited to have Mike join the Zeeland Christian team,” said John Buteyn, Interim Principal at ZCS. “Not only does Mike bring vast experience in finance, but Mike genuinely believes in our mission to love God, love kids and love learning.”
Arendsen’s love for the ZCS mission comes from a long-time connection to the school. Arendsen and all three of his sons graduated from ZCS. In addition, he and his wife Krista have volunteered in many ways over the years.
“It’s been amazing to see God work through this whole process,” said Arendsen. “A few years ago, I became increasingly aware that God might be calling me to something new. So, I began to pray daily over the idea of a career change. After months of prayer, someone randomly mentioned that ZCS was creating a new finance position. It soon became clear that there was nothing random about it. ZCS is where God was calling me.”
Arendsen will be the first person to hold the position of Director of Finance & Operations at ZCS. Previously, the principal oversaw both the academic and the business operations of the school. However, significant growth at ZCS over the past decade revealed a growing need for dedicated financial leadership. In Arendsen’s new position, he’ll take over responsibility for the management and oversight of finance, payroll, HR, facilities, I.T., etc.
"The scale and diversity of ZCS make it an intriguing organization to lead and operate,” said Brian VandenBrink, President of the ZCS Board of Trustees. “We never want to become top-heavy from an administrative standpoint. At the same time, we have a responsibility to be good stewards of the resources God has given us. Mike’s expertise and his experience with both for-profit and non-profit organizations will help us do just that.”
Arendsen holds a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Ferris State University and an MBA in Finance from Grand Valley State University. He is currently serving as the Treasurer of the Board of Trustees for City on a Hill Ministries. When he’s not working or volunteering, Arendsen enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, hiking, kayaking, golfing and bird hunting.
