"But more importantly, I believe that by teaching them about God's love and grace, we can instill in them a foundation of faith that will guide them throughout their lives no matter where they live in the world."

With a strong love for early childhood education and Chinese culture, Melissa Wire brings a unique perspective to her role as an Instructional Assistant in the kindergarten/first grade Mandarin Immersion program at ZCS.

"With over seven years of experience teaching in China, I am passionate about teaching ZCS students Mandarin, which is the official language of China and Taiwan, and helping students develop an appreciation for Chinese cultures," shared Melissa. "But more importantly, I believe that by teaching them about God's love and grace, we can instill in them a foundation of faith that will guide them throughout their lives no matter where they live in the world."

Melissa has worked part-time at ZCS on and off for the past three years and appreciates the school's unique culture of support and love. "It's a joy to be a part of Zeeland Christian School," she says. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to work with such a wonderful staff and to help shape the lives of the children in the Mandarin Immersion program."

Recently, Melissa worked tirelessly to plan, promote, and host the Lunar New Year event, which was attended by hundreds of people in our community. This event not only celebrated the Chinese culture but also brought a new experience for many families in West Michigan.

Melissa is married to her husband, Don, and they have two children who attend ZCS's Mandarin Immersion program. Selah is in the 4th/5th-grade class, and Paxton is in the 2nd/3rd-grade class. Their family hopes to visit China together someday to fulfill Melissa's dream of introducing her children to her friends and speaking to them in Chinese.
