Zeeland
We believe that being a good neighbor and community member is the first step toward fulfilling Jesus' call to love one another. The City of Zeeland is our home and we loyally support it through local service projects and community involvement.
The area now known as Zeeland was originally habitated by the Odawa Native Americans. Zeeland was first settled by Jannes Vande Luyster in 1847. A Dutch landowner, Vande Luyster came from the Netherlands with more than 450 immigrants. The first building erected was a church. Sixty years after Vande Luyster arrived in Zeeland, the village officially became a city.
Today, there are approximately 6,000 people living within the City of Zeeland. Plus, there are over 150 businesses. During the day, the city estimates more than 10,000 workers are present at these businesses. Some of the organizations in Zeeland are world reknowned: Plascore, Herman Miller, Howard Miller, Gentex, and Mead Johnson to name a few.
In addition to Zeeland Christian Schools, other education options include Zeeland Public Schools. ZCS and ZPS have had a wonderful working relationship over the years. We believe that having strong private and public schools make a community better.
Life in Zeeland revolves around the idea of community. The city invests in parks, recreation and city services like plowing. Beautiful sidewalks under tall, old trees line the downtown streets. Historic homes and family farms make up much of the housing. Plentiful events like the Soundz of Summer concert series and the annual Dogorama bring the community together.
There's one other reason we love Zeeland. We love Zeeland because of the parades! Zeeland holds three major parades each year: the Memorial Day Parade, the Pumpkinfest Parade and the Christmas Parade. We participate in these parades. But we also love watching them!
